The Kuwait Space Centre

Kuwait City, Kuwait

Project Phoenix is a story of re-birth. Combining the worlds of Islamic Architecture, space exploration and the harsh desert environment of Kuwait, the Kuwait Space Centre seeks to establish a home for Kuwaiti scientists to become part of the international efforts in space exploration.

The goal is to create a platform that enables the talented youth of Kuwait to pursue the opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) fields, while inspiring the future generations and encouraging a more sustainable future. Architecture as a vehicle for change.

Kuwait is an oil rich nation that needs to successfully transition to sustainable energy as the world moves away from fossil fuels. Symbolically, the project adapts and reuses five oil storage tanks on a recently decommissioned oil refinery that played a large role in making Kuwait what it is today.

Born again, this site will help usher in a new era of scientific participation, sustainable outlook, and progressive thought for Kuwait in a way that harks back to the golden age of Islam.
